Yes there is. I can measure the temperature of the ground. Scientific theories can be tested by their ability to make predictions. But ethics is purely a matter of opinion. You can offer evidence that murder, torture, birth control, vegetarianism, etc. has certain consequences, but cannot offer evidence that it is right or wrong. And even if you could, it wouldn't change my mind.
