I spend significant time working with startup companies in various
industries and I would disagree that there is "no way" to raise
money for pure R&D plays. It isn't easy. However, VC firms still
have capital and still need to generate returns on that capital.

That's great news. Can you give me a few examples of pure R&D firms
that received VC funding in the last 6-12, or even 18 months? More
importantly, have any of them generated returns on capital to their funders?

I'm beginning to seek funding for a non-pure-R&D project and I'm
curious how the market is doing for R&D stuff.
