Isn't the simplest explanation to Fermi's paradoxon that we're in nobody's
smart lightcone?

You just stated that all beings must be nice all the time (because a
single one going exponential will own the place). Now, I would like to see
some real arguments. ("Egan wrote" and "it's the nice thing to do" is not
an argument).
