No, not flippant, just wrong. If you expect to get philosophical
enlightenment from a dictionary you are nearly certain to be
disappointed. Example: If you look up “sentience” it will say something
like a thing that possessing conscious awareness; and if you look up
“consciousness or awareness it will say something that is sentient.

Slightly more useful is “an intelligent system that contains components
devoted to modeling and understanding itself and its relationship to its
environment”, but then it gets downright silly “and determining its own
overall actions”; A cuckoo clock determines its own overall actions.
