When Ken MacLeod writes that he doubts if uploading is possible, and
describes "electronic immortality" as a metaphor he is expressing an opinion
outside his expertise, and because of that it should be accepted only with a
large discount. When he writes that creating "...a software model of the
brain and its body and environment is difficult enough even in principle..."
he is simply wrong, as it is not difficult in principle. We already have
all the tools and techniques necessary to create and run the model, we lack
only the ability to scan a human's molecular makeup in sufficient detail to
make the model accurate.
