After over 2 decades of commercial programming I will trade eloquent
expressive power, dynamic typing, no or backgrounded compilation and
reflection for any amount of execution speed and compiler hand-holding.
I would love to have back all the years spent in inflexible systems
attempting to trick some bastardized excuse for a language into doing
something intelligent. It isn't worth it. Language may not determine
thought but it sure determines how easily you can express and evolve
thoughts and which thoughts you will use the most whether they are most
appropriate or not.

With an eloquent language I can write code that does a virtual machine
model of real hardware and optimizes against it. With a glorified high
level assebly language or something little better than distributable
Pascal I will spend a lot of time making the compiler happy and building
constructs that should be primitives for the real work.
